Greetings and happy turkey day to you from the Big Easy! I’m out here for the holiday, stumbling from one spectacle to the next, eating like crazy and getting down (and trying to get back up again). No time to write, my hands are greasy and I can’t sit, but stay tuned for a full report, with pictures.
Meanwhile, listen here and you won’t be sorry- (why does the blues make me so happy? What music does it for you? And where are you for the holiday?): http://www.kpcp883.com
(Note: This link is to a spectacular radio station I found when I was up near Baton Rouge. KPCP plays mostly from the 40′s and 50′s “because anything older is going to be a scratchy 78-OK once in a while but hard on the ears when we are all accustomed to CD quality.” They don’t play music on Sunday (church?) or Tuesday nights (they air the local school board meetings) and on December 26 they’ll stop playing xmas tunes and go “back to the blues… and a little Zydeco to make it interesting…until Mardi Gras.”)
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving! And enjoy your time out there. Two friends of mine just got back, and had a wonderful time.
I do love me some blues. But - for today, anyway - Tori Amos is doing it for me. I picked up her new album, “Night of Hunters”, and I’m amazed.
I spent my Thanksgiving locally, with some family. Good wine, hilarious conversation, lots of food, of course.
I forgot that I love Tori Amos! IS that a new album? I’ll have to check it out.
Yes, for me the food was an afterthought, too- I wish I forgot it altogether, but no, alas, I did not.
Yes, it is a new album! I’m going to see her at the Academy of Music next Thursday. Very excited.
Hello girl in the hat
I too have just returned from the French Quarter, in New Orleans. First time visiting the “Big Easy”. I stayed at the Prince Conti, and what a nice hotel. Yes I ate a lot as well. Visited Magizine Street. and of course the Quarter, where my friend was having a showing of her art at the Taylor/Bercher Fine Art Gallery on Chartres St. By the way if you go over to my blog, my last 3 postings are images from New Orleans. More to come as well.
I just went to look-what lovely images and poems, Walter. I look forward to seeing more. The city is very inspiring, isn’t it? We try to make it out once a year.
I’ll bet those pictures are gonna be good! Glad you’re having fun Anna. Have a little for me, too.
I love the blues, too, but I’ve been writing a lot lately, so Bryan Ferry’s “Jealous Guy” and “Is your Love Stong Enough” have been keeping my spirits and imagination up. I’m still a sucker for apology and declarations of passionate love. At least in song. Here’s the link (or the video) for “Is Your Love Strong Enough”:

I’m having enough fun for everyone, Re! I’ll wrap some up and send it to you- you can put it on with the perfume from Lisa and then you’re good to go. Roxy Music will always bring me back to 1983/84. (OMG. Never saw that movie, but the video pretty much says it all huh?
)
Thanks for the KPCP connection….. So good to be there with you! Welcome home!
Great music for driving out to Cat Island. When I hear “Smells Like Teen Spirit” I’ll always think of you!
Yay for holiday travels! I’ll set aside your link to listen to another night — for now, catching up on Ré’s blog has got me listening to some Chris Isaak.
Love Chris Isaac! They could probably slip a song or two by him on this station, he’d fit in….
